The History of Cybersecurity
Today’s topic is “The History of Cybersecurity,” and we are going to take a trip through the history of cyber security, explore the evolution of cybersecurity, and understand the constant attack that has shaped the digital landscape over the years.
So the first question you should always be asking is, When did cyber security come into existence?”. There would have been some attacks in the past, because of which we have learned or realized that we need to protect our digital assets, primarily our data.
To make you understand the history of cybersecurity, I’ve divided this into four parts.
- The Birth of Cyber insecurity, which started in the 1970s, went up until 1980, and this was the first generation of viruses that came into existence.
- Then the Rise of Malware and Hacktivism, which started in the 1990s, went up to early 2000. Here, the hacking group came into existence.
- The third is the New Millennium New Threats. It’s a Y2K era that started in the 2000s and went up until 2010, when we saw more sophisticated cyber attacks.
- And the last one is Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs), which are from 2010 onwards.
